Cameras

We live in the most well documented time in all of human history. However, this does not ensure that we know the truth of all that is going on because many of the witnesses, even technological ones, are questionable. But on any given day if you are going out into the public one must expect that you are being photographed or videoed. Almost all of us carry a camera with us everyday and even many homes have security cameras around the home or at least at the front door. Yet sin tempts us to believe that we can hide evil desires and temptations as well as sinful actions. We foolishly forget that the Lord knows what no camera could ever catch.

Eyes

In Job 31, Job is speaking of his own practice of personal accountability to keep himself from the sin of lust. Job states that he is motivated to the practice of person integrity by the fact that God sees his ways and counts his steps. Job is careful about what he allows his eyes to see because he knows that the eyes of God are on him.

We tend to want God to be watching when we have been wronged so that justice will be fulfilled. We also want God to notice our obedience and to hear our words of prayer and praise. Like proud children, we beseech our Father to watch us. We should be comforted by the fact that God doesn’t miss one moment of the blessing or celebration or joy in our lives. However, God also does not miss one moment of our failure or rebellion or sin, either.

Consequences

Job points out in this chapter as he is wrapping up his discourse, that God will judge our record of iniquity or righteousness. Remember that when our first parents, Adam and Eve, had sinned in the garden the first response was to hide (Genesis 3:8)  because of the shame and guilt that they were feeling. No one likes those feelings of shame and guilt, but without those emotions we would not know the relief and joy of having our sin forgiven and our penalty removed. The afflictions of our guilt are actually a blessing so that we can know the affection of God in our redemption. Jesus said that the one who is forgiven much also loves much (Luke 7:41-50).

We must remember that no one ever truly gets away with any sin. Because our sovereign God is truly just, it is impossible for any sin to go unpunished. God does not simply excuse sin like some permissive parent. Instead, the Lord deals with sin by either punishing the sinner justly in hell or atoning for it by counting against Christ on the cross. What God never does is simply dismiss it.

It is also necessary to remember that you can hide your sin. Of course no one can hide sin from the omniscient God who knows all things, but every sin will be brought to light for all to see. The Scripture is clear that “your sin will find you out” and this is spoken to us as a surety (Numbers 32:23)! The question for each of us is in which way will our sin be dealt with on the day of God’s just judgment.
Who Sees

In Genesis 16, we have the account of the plan devised by Sarai and executed by Abram to produce a natural heir for Abram from Sarai’s Egyptian maid Hagar. Hagar then despised her mistress resulting in mistreatment by Sarai. Because of this Hagar fled to the wilderness to escape her persecution and there she met the Lord. In this meeting she realized that the Lord saw her. She felt that she was used and abused but this great God saw her. She came to understand that the Lord was looking after her in the midst of everything that was happening to her. He spoke to her with promise and assurance and hope.

Because our God is the One who truly sees all, let me give you some encouragement. First, if you are attempting to flee from the Lord and indulge in all types of rebellious sin then remember He sees and judges sin. You will not escape His righteous wrath and just punishment. Second, if you feel like you have been abused and abandoned then let me remind you that He sees. He sees you! And He is ready with an abundance of grace, love, and joy for everyone who draws near to Him!
